Book Formatting
Book Formatting is the process of organizing text and images to create a cohesive and visually appealing layout for a book. Book Formatting includes setting proper margins, font styles, line spacing, and adding page numbers, chapters, headers, and footers. It also includes the spine width. Proper book formatting ensures it is visually appealing, making the book easy to read and ready for printing or digital publication.
How To Format A Book For Printing
When formatting a book for print, we request the book cover and inside pages be saved as a PDF file with all fonts and images embedded. Save the file at a 300 dpi resolution. The inside printed pages including blank pages should be created to the finished trim size of the book and saved as one complete PDF file.
Regardless if you choose Paperback binding, Mechanical binding, or Saddle Stitch binding always submit your PDF in single page format (not spreads).
Inside pages MUST BE AN EVEN NUMBER. Add necessary blank pages wherever you feel is appropriate to end up with an even number of pages and most importantly to make front matter (title page, copyright, table of contents) and chapter pages fall on the correct right side when bound. Remember 1 sheet of paper equals 2 pages (front/back).
The cover of your book should be composed together as one separate file including the front, spine, and back cover. Please include a .125 inch bleed around the perimeter of the designed book cover if necessary.
